Decision guide
Virtual office for GST registration
A virtual office is a valid GST address in India — but only when the operator hands you an NOC, a service agreement in your company's name and a utility bill for the premises, and will host a physical verification visit. Everything else in this guide follows from those three documents.
The document set to ask for
- No-objection certificate (NOC) from the address owner or operator
- Rent or service agreement in your company's name
- Latest utility bill or property tax receipt for the premises
- Board resolution or authorisation letter, where the applicant isn't a director
- Signage or name-board rights at the premises, which GST officers do check during physical verification
Ask for samples of all five before you pay. Operators who do this regularly will send them within a day; operators who hesitate are the ones whose addresses get rejected.
Common questions
Virtual office and GST: common questions
- Can a virtual office be used for GST registration in India?
- Yes. A virtual office address is accepted for GST registration as long as the operator issues a valid NOC, a service agreement in your company's name and a utility bill for the premises, and is willing to support a physical verification visit. An address sold without those papers will not survive the officer's check.
- What does a GST-ready virtual office cost?
- Most operators price GST-ready virtual offices annually rather than monthly, and the price varies by city and by whether mail handling and meeting-room credits are bundled. We publish live per-city pricing on each listing and quote the all-in annual figure before you commit.
- Do I need a separate virtual office in every state?
- Yes. GST registration is state-wise, so selling into a state where you have no place of business generally means registering there, which needs an address in that state. This is the most common reason companies take several virtual offices across India.
- Will a GST officer visit the address?
- Often, yes. Physical verification is routine for new registrations. Choose an operator who keeps staffed reception during business hours and will display your company's name board — that is what the officer photographs.
- Can I register my company (not just GST) at a virtual office?
- Company incorporation at a virtual address is accepted by the MCA with the same document set, but not every operator supports it. Confirm registered-office use in writing before paying, because it is a separate permission from GST use.
